This season will see the realisation of Flora’s long time dream to be the owner of a thatched house .
Work started last Sept on restoring a ruin in front of Airdabhaigh . A team of people completed the stonemasonry by the end of Sept 05. David Lewis, one of Dr. Sawday’s first guests who had stayed the previous May led the team. A local thatcher then completed the roof , a local carpenter made doors and windows and local men were employed at stages of digging the floor and paths . It is now at the final stage of completion .
The building will have a peat fire and will be used as a mini –museum/ studio. It will display the owners interest in the spinning weaving and dyeing activities . It will also display some of Carinish history. Workshops will be arranged for ‘Art on the map’ in July and Aug in printing, sketching, dyeing and weaving .
Visitors to Airdabhaigh will have another authentic and memorable experience when they book on craft courses in the thatched studio.
